And sometimes, "I'm sorry" just doesn't mean enough. This is my reminder to anyone who reads this that words hurt. They hurt more than a punch to the gut. That kind of pain heals, hurt caused by words might fade over time, but the words that caused that hurt will stay with you forever, haunting you at every chance. Reminding you that at least one person thinks something negative about you. At least one person is bothered by one of your characteristics. It's a reminder that even though you give your heart and soul that's not good enough.
I've always said that I'd rather be the one to get hurt than the one doing the hurting. Emotional pain is horrible, and it would rip at my soul if I intentionally inflicted that on someone, especially someone I love.
So, I guess I can take comfort in the fact that I was on the receiving end instead of the giving. At least I'll have that peace of mind.
Be careful with your harsh words, especially to those you care about. You never know when you might tear at the last shred of self esteem someone has.
