Who'd have thought

When I pulled into the post office parking lot today I had no idea what I was walking into.

One person behind the counter and one customer. So I thought. I get in line and the woman I thought was the customer says for me to go ahead, she's just making small talk. I step forward and this is what follows between me, this woman and the clerk.

Woman (to me): So what are your thoughts on Virginia Tech? That's what we've been talking about.

Me: Sad...very very sad. (I'm not much into talking to strangers LOL.)

Woman: Well, what do you think should be done about it?

Me: Gun regulations need to be reformed.

Woman: Why do you say that?

Me: Well, I just think it should be a bit harder for people to buy guns. This guy had a 5 year history of serious psychological problems and was deemed a possible threat to others by a judge.

Woman: Yeah people are way too worried about being politically correct. All of his past issues were overlooked because he's asian.

Clerk: Yeah Imus shouldn't have been fired either.

Woman: There is no such thing as racism. Racism is an excuse for people to tell us how we should think and what we should say. It shouldn't be called racism when you just choose not to be around certain kinds of people. Would you want to hang around trashy people?

Me: Standing there not knowing what to say trying to find a way to politely exit the building. She apparently noticed the funny look on my face.

Woman: (grabs my hand) Honey, you seem like a smart person but I have my two talk shows and one website that I read. They tell me all I need to know and wouldn't do me wrong.

PUHLEEEZE!

All I could muster was "Nice talking with you but I've got to get going."

At the post office....sigh.
